Events – PAWS of Coronado

Calling all canines to enter this paw-litical race! It’s almost time to nominate and elect Coronado’s 2024 Canine Mayor. Nominations are being accepted May 2 – 24th. Canines must reside in Coronado or have been adopted from PAWS (Pacific Animal Welfare Society). This event raises funds to help care for animals at PAWS including medical costs. This fundraiser started in 2010 and this year we are looking to name our eighth Paw-litician! The Canine who gets the most votes becomes the next Canine Mayor of Coronado to serve a two-year term (2024-2026). The Coronado Canine Mayor is a ceremonial position with the winner asked to ride/walk in the Coronado 4th of July Parade and give out a few “shakes” at other appropriate events. The Canine Mayor will receive a “doggie basket” filled with treats, toys and a great prize for the owner(s), runner ups will also get some special treats and serve as members of the Canine City Council.

Voting will start on May 25th once all nominations are in.

Summer is almost here and PAWS of Coronado is excited to host another fun-filled summer camp, happening June 17-20th at the Coronado Animal Care Facility (1395 First Street). There are 4 fun-filled days planned, with two 3-hour sessions offered (AM & PM), designed to engage children ages 8-13 in hands-on activities that foster compassion and responsible pet ownership. With a focus on animal welfare and education, camp participants will have the opportunity to interact with our animals under the guidance of experienced & trained staff. Throughout the camp, they will learn about the needs of different animals (specifically dogs, cats, and small animals), how to provide basic care and the importance of love for our furry friends, and what PAWS of Coronado provides to our community. Activities will include feeding, cleaning, grooming, enrichment, training, medical care, and more!
