Owner Surrender Information

All owner surrenders at PAWS of Coronado are by appointment only. To schedule, please call us directly at 619-435-8247. When calling, we kindly ask that you:

  • Share any available medical records for your pet.
  • Ensure your pet is up to date on vaccinations, if possible, before entering the shelter.
  • Due to the high number of animals in our care, we use an appointment-based system to ensure every pet and family receives the time and support they deserve. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

  2. Help your pet shine.Have them spayed/neutered, groomed, and vaccinated to increase adoptability.

  4. Share your pet’s story.Be honest and thorough—highlight their personality, routines, and what type of home would suit them best.
  5. Create a rehoming poster.Include clear photos and a short, engaging bio about your pet.

Military Support for Pet Owners

If you receive transfer orders, start preparing as early as possible:

  • Health & Medications: Request your pet’s medical records and a 3-month supply of medications, plus written prescriptions.
  • Quarantine Requirements: Research regulations for your destination country—quarantine may be required.
  • Financial Assistance: Service members may be reimbursed for pet transport costs:
    • Up to $550 for moves within the continental U.S. Up to $2,000 for moves to/from overseas locations.
