TIPS FOR REUNITING WITH A LOST DOG
As soon as you realize your dog has gone missing, grab a leash, a favorite toy or blanket, and a few high-value treats. Familiar items and extra-tasty treats will help put your dog at ease and entice him over when you find him. It’s also helpful for one family member to remain home in case your dog returns on their own. Alert your neighbors, including local businesses and places that your dog may like to visit. Post on social media, specifically neighborhood or community pages. Alert PAWS of Coronado and local veterinary offices, along with your pets microchipping company.
TIPS FOR REUNITING WITH A LOST CAT
First conduct an in-depth search inside of your home. Cats are surprisingly flexible and can squeeze themselves into very small places. It’s helpful to keep a break-away collar with a bell on your cat to help locate them. If your cat is not found inside, conduct a search outside of your home; your yard and neighbors’ yards. Alert your neighbors, and post on social media, specifically neighborhood or community pages. Alter PAWS and local veterinary offices. Place your cats litter box and food bowl outside of your home. Your cat may recognize the scent and make its way home. If your cat is shy or scared, they will likely remain in hiding and come out at night to eat, drink, or use their litter box.
***PAWS of Coronado will hold a stray animal without identification for 72 hours. All stray animals will receive vaccinations appropriate for their age and species upon intake. After 72 hours, if the animal has not been claimed it becomes property of PAWS of Coronado and will be made available for adoption or exit to another animal welfare organization. ***
