PAWS makes every effort to find permanent homes for all of the animals that come to the Coronado Animal Care Facility. On occasion, animals come to us that require a special level of attention. This may be due to recovery from an illness or surgery. It can also include newborns that have been separated from their mother, who require bottle-feeding and an intensive level of care to increase their chances of survival to adulthood. When these situations arise, we find that these animals are more likely to thrive in a home with a dedicated, experienced caregiver, who can provide round the clock attention for a temporary period. This can last several weeks.
If you have experience caring for sick or newborn animals, and feel that you have the time and willingness to do so again, please let us know about your interest. Individuals like you are very unique indeed and we never know when an animal in special need will arrive at our doorstep!
If you wish to express interest in fostering a future pet in need, please contact us.
Current Dog Foster Opportunity:
Skye, a Mixed Breed is Seeking a Foster Home
Skye first came to us at PAWS several years ago when a Good Samaritan found her wandering along the Silver Strand and brought her to the Coronado Animal Care Facility. What was immediately clear was that Skye had been used for breeding and had very few manners! What we also realized right away was that Skye was looking to give and get as much love and attention as possible. Skye quickly became a PAWS favorite as she mesmerized all of us with her soulful, brown eyes. We happily spent time working on her manners on and off leash, supported by professional trainers. And we even helped her drop a couple pounds from her arrival weight of 92! We all shed more than a few tears when Skye waltzed out of PAWS and into a home with her new family in 2017.
Skye did great with her family and was much loved but sadly, due to some personal issues, the family has had to bring her back to PAWS as they are no longer in a position to care for her. We are now looking for a foster home for Skye. Because Skye’s environment has been inconsistent over the last year, she is in the process of undergoing a few weeks of training to help her with impulse control. We are looking for a foster family that understands Skye’s journey and can provide her with love and a consistent environment. We would like her foster to participate in her training and be committed to reinforcing what Skye’s learned when they take her home. PAWS is covering training costs.
We will let Skye tell you a bit more about herself….
Hi I’m Skye! I’m an 8 year old female mixed breed and I’m a svelte 78 lbs! I am house trained. I’m what they call an “orange” behaviorally which means I’m cheerful. I love people! My favorite thing to do is be with my family. I enjoy following you around the house and being part of things. I especially love hanging out on the couch with my people watching movies and getting belly rubs. I might even take a nap (or two) during the day! I enjoy walks but now that I’m a bit older they don’t have to be super long, moderate amounts of exercise work just fine to keep me happy and fit.
I’m looking for a foster family that is dog savvy and able to handle a girl my size. My family will also need to set boundaries and reinforce my training as I worked really hard learning my manners and don’t want that effort to go to waste 😀. I prefer to have all of your attention and will need to be the only pet in the home.
I’ve been super lucky to make lots of friends since I came to Coronado but now I am seeking a foster home. Please contact my friends at special.adopt@pawsofcoronado.org to learn more about me and make an appointment for us to meet.
Thanks for listening and I look forward to meeting you!
