Rico, a 3 year old Chihuahua, was transferred to PAWS of Coronado at the request of another shelter several months ago because that shelter did not have the resources to support him. When Rico arrived, he was extremely stressed and filled with fear. As the PAWS team was able to work with Rico to build his confidence and trust, his charming personality started to emerge. Rico is playful, engaging, athletic and very smart! He loves walks, zooming around the shelter’s backyard and most of all hanging out with his people (usually in their laps!).
With the support of a certified trainer, the PAWS team has worked with Rico to address some handling sensitivities and resource guarding of his food. Rico learns very quickly and is eager to participate in his training, particularly when it involves yummy treats! We are thrilled with the progress that he has made at the shelter. At this point, we believe that Rico will benefit most by moving to a foster home which will provide him with a more consistent, calm environment where he can continue to progress.
We are looking for an adult, dog savvy family who would be willing to foster Rico and continue to work with our trainer on his behavioral issues. Rico would fare best in a family where he is the only pet and where his foster family can commit to continue his training and provide him with a supportive environment. PAWS will cover expenses for Rico’s training, medical and food during his foster. If you are able to help, please email us at email@example.com to learn more about Rico.
Editor’s Note: Rico has been adopted!
