PAWS of Coronado will be participating in WORLD SPAY DAY, February 26, 2019. This special day was created by the Doris Day Animal League in 1994 (originally called “Spay Day USA) as an opportunity to bring attention to the pet overpopulation problem in the United States. Now, over 70 countries worldwide participate in WORLD SPAY DAY, spaying and neutering stray dogs and cats which otherwise would reproduce dozens of litters during their lifetimes, relegating their offspring to a hopeless life. While it is important to spay and neuter family pets, and to adopt rather than breed or buy pets, without the spay and neuter of homeless animals, the problem of worldwide pet overpopulation will never be solved and hundreds of thousands of helpless animals will continue to be killed each year.
During the month of February, PAWS of Coronado will offer free vouchers to the residents of Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City for one free spay or neuter of a cat. The surgery will be performed at Colina Veterinary Hospital, whose veterinarians are participating with PAWS in the fight against pet overpopulation. One hundred vouchers will be issued on a first come, first served basis and will be valid for a period of three months. Anyone wishing to receive a voucher should call PAWS of Coronado at 619-437-8247, beginning February 1.
