Free spay / neuter for local cats
Approximately 1.4 million cats are euthanized yearly.
The overpopulation of domestic animals remains a nationwide challenge. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters in this country every year and of those, 3.4 million are cats. Of the cats entering shelters, approximately 1.4 million cats are euthanized yearly, primarily due to a lack of available forever homes.
One of the missions of PAWS of Coronado is to encourage the spay/neuter of all domestic animals in order to stave off animal overpopulation and reduce the number of shelter animals euthanized. In support of this mission, PAWS offers a free spay/neuter voucher program to residents of Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City and Chula Vista who are either unable to afford to spay/neuter their own pet cats, or who wish to spay/neuter a stray or feral cat they are feeding.
To request a voucher
To request a voucher, please use our contact form and select “Spay/Neuter Voucher” or call 619-435-8247 and leave a message for Claudia Lorge. Qualifying cat owners or caretakers will be mailed a voucher with instructions to call any of the participating veterinarians listed to set up an appointment. The client then would take the cat and the voucher to the participating veterinarian on the day of the surgery.
Please note the voucher covers only the spay/neuter surgery and does not cover vaccinations, cryptorchid males, lactating females, females in heat, or who are pregnant, pre-op blood tests, post-op pain medication, dissolvable sutures or E-collars. If any of the above conditions are found to exist or any of the additional procedures become necessary, the client is responsible for all costs above the cost of the spay/neuter.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding this program.
